In December 2022, La Table des Amis de Provence offered “Truffle Market in Ménerbes” to members and friends.
Our “table des amis” is reserved for 12 persons maximum. Participants would settle their tab directly with the restaurant. After a leisurely post lunch stroll, we gather at 15h00 at the Place de l’Horloge where we would visit the truffle market which takes place in December when they are first harvested. On the Place de l’Horloge, you would also find the boutique and tasting room of the Maison de la truffe et du vin du Luberon which is worth a browse but expect it to be crowded on the truffle market day. There would be time for strolling the historic center on your own. Don’t miss the views from the Eglise St-Luc with its old cemetery. At 17h00 we meet up again at the Maison Dora Maar, former home of the French photographer, painter and poet. She was romantically involved with Picasso and bought this house in 1944 with the proceeds of a painting he had given her on their parting. On our guided tour by the director Gwen Strauss (a noted author and long term resident of France), we would learn about its transformation into the Nancy B Negley Artists Residency Program. Exceptionally, we would also be given a tour of the nearby Hotel de Tingry, a classified historical monument. Last but certainly not least, we have been invited to join the staff and residents for vin chaud while we watch the closing fireworks at 18h30 from the vantage point of the Maison Dora Maar.
