In December 2023, La Table des Amis de Provence offered “Lunch with gypsy musicians at Chez Bob” to members and friends.
Have you ever wondered where the Gypsy Kings go on their day off? They or members of their extended family can often be found at the legendary Chez Bob in the Camargue on weekends, entertaining not only their guests but sometimes each other, judging by the number of guitars we have seen being passed around. The table is preset with l’anchïoade, la poutargue and l’assiette de charcuterie de Camargue. The main courses are meats cooked over the wood fire. Here is your chance to try a steak taureau, pluma du porc or a piece d’agneau, all cooked to perfection and served straight from the grill with generous side dishes. Desserts are not to die for but it doesn’t matter because by that point you are most likely deep into listening to the musicians in the cozy “grand Salle” and perhaps ordering another bottle of wine as it is going to be a long afternoon. We have reserved a table for 10.
