In September 2024, La Table des Amis de Provence offered “Exhibition by Joanna Staniszkis “Au fil du lin et du chanvre"” to members and friends.
A student of fine arts in Warsaw then at the Chicago Academy of Arts, Joanna Staniszkis was a long-time professor in Canada, particularly in textile design and historical costumes. Previously we enjoyed visiting her home/atelier in a former quarry in Taillades where she creates wearable art from silk. Our program for the day would be: 10h15 meet at Abbaye Saint-André, 58 rue Monté du Fort, Villeneuve lez Avignon where we would be given a garden tour and history of this magnificent property acquired by Marie and Gustave Viennet. 11h30 presentation by Joanna of her works of art which marries silk, linen and hemp fabrics echoing ancestral Provençal knowledge. 12h30 lunch at Hortus café under the arches in the Abbaye garden with a view across the Rhône river of the Palais des Popes. Wine is extra, per above.
Historical account reconstructed from La Table’s archived event materials.
