In April 2025, La Table des Amis de Provence offered “A Bloody Mary Brunch” to members and friends.
The Bloody Mary drink which is basically a spiced up tomato juice and vodka cocktail was perhaps invented at Harry’s Bar, Paris in 1920. Another source attributes the cocktail to bartender Fernand Petiot who perfected his recipe for the Bloody Mary in 1934 at The St. The name perhaps come from Queen Mary Tudor of England who persecuted her enemies in a very bloody fashion. Regardless, we would be serving not only the classic Bloody Mary with vodka but also the Bloody Maria with tequila, to give it a different twist, so to speak. We would also be serving Virgin Marys along with other non alcoholic libations. The brunch would be highlighted by generous servings of Egyptian street food prepared by Nitokrees Tadrous Carpita of Cairo, Egypt
Historical account reconstructed from La Table’s archived event materials.
