The Les Grands Buffets Safari to
Narbonne
28 - 30 October 2024
This event will be a road trip for a maximum of 16 participants, the highlight being an all you can eat dinner at Les Grands Buffets in Narbonne at which 380,000 diners each year (many of them repeatcustomers) pay 57.90€ for piles of haute cuisine including nine kinds of foie gras, was recently dubbed “The hottest restaurant in France” by The New Yorker with reservations booked more than six months in advance.
Narbonne is a long way to go just for a meal so we have elaborated the itinerary to include other gastronomical
delights both coming and going.
On Monday, 28 October we arrive early afternoon at La Maison Noilly Pratt in Marseillan for a private tour of the
facilities followed by a cocktail making course. Cost is 40€. We are assured that measures are kept to well below 0.05 so everyone can drive after tasting.
We have arranged a block of rooms at an all suites hotel in Narbonne* where we will gather for shot glasses of Perrier at no later than 19h00 for transportation to Les Grands Buffets where our dinner reservation is at 19h45 in a private dining room.
On Tuesday morning 29 October we will arrange a guided tour of the historic center of Narbonne which will end at Les Halles where we will either dine at a restaurant in the market or across the street on seafood tapas.
Afternoon at leisure to visit the Abbey de Fontfroide, the African game reserve at Sigean, a winery or just relax at the hotel where all of their suites are equipped with “jacuzzi” type spa baths. Dinner will be a la carte at the hotel restaurant with lots of wine.
On Wednesday 30 October on the return leg we will enjoy a tasting of the delicious and inexpensive Picpoul de Pinet wine followed by an oyster and mussels lunch at le St Barth on the waterfront in Marseillan. There is an optional boat tour of the oyster beds after lunch.
This will be a “pay as you go” event, the only charge from La Table des Amis being a 25€ per person
registration fee (30€ for nonmembers). Also to be paid in advance is the 57,90€ per person for
the buffet dinner, not including wine.
Further details will be sent to those who register for this event.
This event has been organized by La Table des Amis de Provence, a non-profit association that connects wine and food lovers to a table of friends, membership fees: 15 € single, 25 € couples.
*ILE du GUA Suites 4 star all suites hotel 3.4 km fromLes Gr andes Buffets, group rate 140€ per night for comfort suites and 240€ for prestige suites plus 3,31€ per person tax de sejour.
