Nîmes, capital of the Gard and a wonderful Roman city, is a southern France gastronomic destination. There are 6 Michelin star restaurants and 6 Michelin Guide restaurants, along with several others listed in the Michelin Guide.

We will meet at the clock tower in the Place d’Horloge at 11h30.
First stop will be Les Halles de Nîmes. Les Halles was written up in the Financial Times in December 2024 as one of “The World’s Best Food Markets.” Bring a shopping bag!

After an hour or so in Les Halles we will walk past the Maison Carré, a Roman temple that is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is one of the best preserved Roman temples in Europe.
The Maison Carré is on the way to the restaurant Vincent Croizard, a beautiful and quiet Michelin Guide restaurant on a back street, run by chef Vincent Croizard and his wife, who serves as the sommelier. Lunch menus are €42 and there is a vegetarian menu for €52 (neither include drinks).

You will need to ring the bell at this discreet townhouse in a narrow street near the Carré d'Art in order to gain access. The self - taught chef composes lovely creative cuisine, striking out and experimenting with at times surprising combinations. His wife is behind the superb selection of wines, which showcases the Languedoc - Roussillon.
After lunch we will walk past the impressive Les Arènes de Nîmes and come over to Barney and Madeleine’s apartment (near the train station) for some coffee and digestifs.
